Ward Camp-out (Yes, this is still July)

Being on the Activities Committee, I felt it my duty to actually attend the ward camp out this year (I did make some pretty spiffy posters for it, after all), plus we actually had camping equipment for more than just Mark.

The camp out was at Barton Park in/near Clackamas. We arrived Thursday evening and found a spot next to the other couple families who had decided to come up that day. Mark got busy putting up our tent and I got busy grilling our burgers. After we were all settled and had eaten dinner, I put together a blueberry crumble in a dutch oven. It was my first time cooking anything in a dutch oven (outside of the kitchen anyway), but I had done some research and it turned out quite yummy. It was super dark outside and we didn't take any pictures of that night though. We also enjoyed s'mores at the neighboring family's camp site. We learned that the ultimate s'more is made with a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup instead of chocolate. Oh yes. Cee loves being in the tent and once she fell asleep, slept really well.

The next morning, we ate oatmeal while everyone around us made big, yummy breakfasts with eggs, bacon, pancakes and the like. We learned we are very light campers comparatively. I couldn't believe what some people brought with them! I guess it's called "Family Camping", but it's just a little bit ridiculous in my opinion, although I was jealous as the smell of bacon wafted over to us.

A playground across from our camp site - Cee couldn't get enough of the swings (as usual)

That day we went down to the river to spend a few hours. Cee and I went a little before Mark and we were told it wasn't a far walk, but with carrying a 30 lb. kid, it felt like it was pretty far (even though it was mainly downhill). Once we got down, I made sure to call Mark and tell him to bring the car cause there was no way I was carrying her back up to camp. Ceci had a lot of fun playing by the water. She found a stick that kept her preoccupied for quite some time.

Unfortunately, I had to work the next day so we had to leave the camp-out a day early (and missed out on seeing the majority of ward who came up on Friday evening). We were pretty hungry as we started to drive home, and on the way there I had seen this little place called "Carver Cafe". I recognized it from a friend's blog post about the Twilight film sites in Oregon so we decide to stop there for lunch. We made just in time before they closed for the day. It had been awhile since I'd seen the movie, so I couldn't remember which table it was that Bella sat at with Charlie, but with Mark's film experience, he picked it out right off the bat based on the place that had the best lighting. Turns out he was right. Surprisingly, the food was quite good and the people who worked there seemed to be good sports about the whole thing and even wore shirts that say "I got a BITE at Carver Cafe".

The table from the movie is the one behind me, in the corner by the window.

That was a cool campground. We didn't make it to the ward campout but did go there earlier for the F/S campout.

I'll definitely have to try out the Reese's Peanut Butter S'more.

I'm proud of you for camping.

Did you get the veggie burger just like Bella?
